The Price of Health

A few weeks ago I met a lady at my work that told me about her recent visit to the dentist. She has diabetes and she lost all her teeth. The dentist had to extract all of her teeth and she will need a denture from now on. The unfortunate thing about this situation is that she gets paid minimum wage and cannot afford insurance. The removal of her teeth has left her with major financial problems and no teeth. I was thinking about this situation and I ask myself why is it that our price for health is so expensive. I know someone that goes to a certified dentist across the border and spends less than $10 dollars for a cleaning. While here in America we spend a fortune to see a dentist. I also know people who are sick and refuse to go to the doctor because of the financial burden. Walking in to the emergency room costs at least $1,000 before they even tell you what you have. I really don’t get it and makes me sad to know that many people out there have no insurance or a way to pay there medical bills. Buying insurance is difficult but there are several sites that offer help to compare the prices of health insurance.

  1. Yes, even though we talk about our health system, this chaos is just an expensive mess.

  2. My mother is in the same boat. She has emphysema and can not afford insurance. It is really sad that just because healthcare is a necessity people can charge ridiculous amounts.

  3. I agree with you, I think it's unfortunate that we havent set up a health care system that tends to all citizens, or at least something that is affordable. It frightens me, and makes me thankful that I am currently covered. Although I don't have dental, I feel secure in the fact that I am covered in cases of emergancies.
